Slag Gallery is pleased to present in the main gallery Common Tablea solo exhibition of new photographs by Alex Yudzon.

In his latest series of photographs, Alex Yudzon presents a visually sumptuous group of tableaus depicting modern day vanitas still lifes and baroque figures. Set in meticulously constructed environments, Yudzon's richly textured work blurs the line between painting and photography. Well-versed in the language of both mediums, Yudzon arranges an apparent motley of high and low elements, ranging from foods and readymades to human subjects and original paintings. Unapologetic scenes of decadence are interlaced with subtle moments of beauty and decay creating a complex narrative of desire and loss. Vividly colored and classically composed, the work adroitly juxtaposes art-history with contemporary themes of representation to further undergird Yudzon's dialectical preoccupations. His still lifes depict a heightened reality, a deeply sensuous and sensual world that captures the painstaking beauty of life's ephemerality set against the chaos of our age.

Alex Yudzon graduated from Chelsea College of Art and Design in London and studied extensively at Pratt Institute in New York. Over the past decade, Yudzon has exhibited works extensively nationally and internationally including Art Basel Miami Beach, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, Art Bastion Gallery in Miami, La Bottega Lab in Italy, Galerie Le Magasin de Jonets in France, and Kolkata International Performance Arts Festival. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
