In his practice, Marius Mircea Ritiu aims to reflect on the importance and/or triviality of heritage, borders and nationalism. He encourages viewers to reflect upon notions such as global responsibility, collective consciousness, and citizenship. Ritiu examines how information sharing via new technologies enables an increased mobility of ideas, goods and people, and the impact this has on shifting physical borders. Universe related ideas, the “Big Bang Theory”, black holes, wormholes, time travel, relativity, and the force of nature are recurring themes in Ritiu’s work.

Marius Mircea Ritiu graduated with a BA and MA in Classical Sculpture from the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania and obtained an MA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Belgium. He left Romania in 2010 together with his colleague and friend, Cristian Bors. Bors & Ritiu worked as an artist duo from 2010 until 2016. During these seven years, they explored ideas of traveling, movement, and migration, transforming their experience as Eastern European immigrants in a Western European country into a source of inspiration.
