SLAG Gallery is proud to announce UNACCOMPANIED, a solo exhibition of recent works by artist Debra Pearlman.  Pearlman invites the viewer to inspect closely her artistic journey, which reflects not only unique sensibilities, but also a keen understanding of the material and its array of possibilities.

“Multi-media artist Debra Pearlman’s new large-scale “glitter” works in Unaccompanied… combine painting, silkscreened photographic images, and crushed glass on canvas, infusing the surfaces with shifting shapes suggesting both a startling imminence and ghostly vanishing depending on one’s position when viewing them. She consistently focuses on images of children and adolescents in contemporary society, and the structuring of their worlds of play, fantasy, and childhood dramas.

Her own drawings and photographs, as well as images drawn from the media, serve as points of departure for her themes.

…With these mixed media works, Pearlman explores ideas about the nexus of painting and photography, and the limits of these mediums, pushing the boundaries of expectation for viewers, while challenging notions about story-telling and mechanical reproduction.”

Pearlman holds a MFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a BFA from University of Massachusetts.  Her work is part of numerous collections such as:

Columbus Art Museum, Columbus, Georgia
