Over the last ten years, Vincent Gicquel has demonstrated an exceptional ability to integrate a sense of the human condition into his canvases, characterized by striking colors and unsettling tragicomic subjects. Having drawn inspiration from the German painters of the Leipzig School, Gicquel leaves behind the realistic line to focus on the much more supple line, the result of a more marginal creative process.
In 2024, Gicquel exhibited preparatory drawings at the Église de Saint-Eustache in Paris, and he was recognized for his 2023 presentation at SLAG&RX in New York. Notable exhibitions include his works at Galerie RX in Paris in 2022 and at Galerie Thomas Bernard / Cortex Athletico in Paris and Carlier Gebauer in Berlin in 2019. His earlier works, such as those at Galerie Thomas Bernard in 2018 and Galerie Carlier Gebauer in Berlin, further illustrate his ability to engage audiences with innovative concepts and multidimensional narratives. His significant contributions to the art world have garnered support from the Collection Pinault, which notably acquired five of his works in 2018 for an exhibition in Rennes.
