Yumiko Ono (b. Kobe, Japan) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on sculpture, installation, and ceramics, using anti-architectural materials such as tracing paper, slip-cast porcelain, and textiles to create architectural Utopias.
Ono received her MFA in Ceramics from Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, Russia (2018), and an MFA in Intermedia from Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, Czech Republic (2010). Her education also includes research at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Israel (2011–2012); Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Hungary (2005–2007); and Prague Academy of Fine Arts, Czech Republic (2007–2008), as well as a BA in Painting from Kyoto Seika University, Japan (2005).
Ono’s work has been featured in exhibitions at major institutions including Rainha Dona Leonor Museum, Portugal (2024); Pushkin Museum, Russia (2025); MOCA Taipei, Taiwan (2019); Diem Phung Thi Museum, Vietnam (2020); National Art Center, Japan (2013); MassMoCA, USA (2018); and John Michael Kohler Arts Center, USA (2019).
She has participated in international artist residencies at LMCC, USA (2024); Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, USA (2024); Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Canada (2023); Franconia Sculpture Park, USA (2022); Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, UK (2023); as well as programs in Brazil, Russia, Portugal, and Japan.
Ono has received numerous awards and grants, including support from the Mary and Chris Fong Family Endowment, USA (2023); Yoshino Gypsum Art Foundation, Japan (2022); Franconia Sculpture Park Fellowship, USA (2022); and was a finalist for the CAF Award, Japan (2018). She has been awarded government scholarships from Japan, Russia, Israel, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Her works are held in public and private collections including John Michael Kohler Arts Center, USA; Kohler Co., USA; Imperial Porcelain Factory, Russia; and Rainha Dona Leonor Museum, Portugal.
