“This collection of work embodies a “table of contents” in which the chapters and their sequence are most accurately represented as undefined variables suspended in context. Each of the works presented is a documentation of a semi-private performance of a process I call “the context: conundrum”.

Dumitru Gorzo's variably scaled mixed media paintings on paper are at once explorations into, extrapolations from and expressive, highly energetic extensions of the photographic images that engender them. Working mostly with black and white prints of his own creation, the artist goes on to either venerate or defy the pictorial content of the photos, which often become so deeply integral to and embedded within the greater compositions as to be almost obscured entirely.

This multi-approach exhibition is at times revealing, at times stealthy, at times both. Either way, the work goes behind, beneath and beyond in order to keep its truth covert or to blow it open.
