Slag Gallery proudly announces Stella Waitzkin: These Books Are Paintings, the first solo exhibition of work by the sculptor Stella Waitzkin (1920-2003) at the gallery. The show features a selection of significant works dating from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. In these works, we see a range of compositional approaches the artist applied to her idiosyncratic use of the cast book form: single sculptural objects, assemblages, and rows of cast resin books set upon shelves. Waitzkin’s powerful artworks explore themes of transformation, memory, gender roles, and the disruption of expectations. Exhibition curated by Craig Hensala.
